Community-Based Counseling Centers:

• Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers.

• They provide a range of social and psychological services to eligible Veterans, service members (including National Guard and Reserve components), and their families.

Counseling Services:

• Professional counseling is offered to support a successful transition from military to civilian life.

• Counseling is also available for individuals, groups, marriages, and families.

• Specialized support for those dealing with the psychological effects of military service, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and military sexual trauma (MST).

Trauma-Informed Care:

• Vet Center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced and prepared to address the challenges related to the tragedies of war, loss, grief, and the transition after trauma.

Confidential Support:

• Services are provided in a relaxed, non-medical setting.

• All services offered by Vet Centers are strictly confidential.

• Confidential support is available for a variety of needs, such as depression, PTSD, and the psychological effects of military sexual trauma.

Post-Deployment Support:

• Life after a deployment can be challenging, and Vet Centers are there to help.

• Support is offered to Veterans, service members, and their families at no cost.

Connection to Resources:

• Vet Centers assist in connecting individuals with more support within the VA and the local community.

• Referrals and connections to other VA or community benefits and services are part of the comprehensive support offered.

Veteran-Centric Approach:

• Vet Centers understand the unique experiences and challenges faced by Veterans and their families.

• The staff includes individuals who have served in the military, contributing to a veteran-centric and empathetic approach.

Holistic Support:

• Vet Centers provide holistic support, recognizing the diverse needs of the military community.

• Services are tailored to address mental health, social, and emotional well-being.
