415 Shore Rd, Somers Point, NJ 08244, United States

Description

AMVETS, a Congressionally chartered veterans organization, stands as a dedicated force for veterans, their families, communities, and the United States. Rooted in the aftermath of World War II, returning veterans organized independent clubs with a shared vision. In 1944, the term "AMVETS" was coined, representing American Veterans of World War II, and in 1947, the organization was granted a federal charter.

Founding Principles and Evolution: AMVETS was established with a commitment to promoting world peace, preserving the American way of life, and aiding veterans in helping themselves. Over the years, the charter has evolved to broaden eligibility criteria, acknowledging the sacrifices made by all veterans and service personnel.

Inclusive Membership: Today, AMVETS extends membership to all honorably discharged veterans who served on active duty, in the National Guard, Reserves, U.S. Coast Guard, and wartime U.S. Merchant Marine after September 15, 1940. Active-duty service members are also eligible.

Advocacy and Support: AMVETS National Service Officers, accredited by the V.A., offer free expert advice and claims assistance to veterans and their families. The organization maintains an active legislative program, ensuring a presence on Capitol Hill to advocate for veterans' rights.

Community Engagement and Service: AMVETS hospital volunteers contribute countless hours to uplift the lives of hospitalized veterans. The National Service Foundation provides financial support to Veterans Administration Medical Centers for essential medical equipment and supplies. AMVETS actively engages in Americanism, scholarships, driver safety, blood drives, organ donor programs, Paws with a Cause, and the Special Olympics.

Serving with Pride: As AMVETS embarks on its sixth decade of service, the organization remains steadfast in its commitment to Serving with Pride. Whether supporting veterans, their country, local communities, or families, AMVETS continues to be a beacon of pride and service for those who have served and sacrificed.
